What is Self Love? The Three Layers of Self Love

Loving yourself isn’t always an easy job. It certainly wasn’t for me. But the truth (that took me years to learn) is that we are all born with exactly what we each need to fulfill our own purpose.  If you aren’t seeing that in yourself, you are missing something you cannot afford to miss any longer!

But what does it really mean to love yourself?  In short, self-love encompasses three fundamental layers: physical, mental, and spiritual.  Each layer is a reflection of God's love for us and plays a unique role in nurturing our souls, minds, and bodies so that we can live out our God given purpose. Uncover what it means to love ourselves as women of faith and how to practice this love in our daily lives,

Physically

Loving yourself physically goes beyond mere vanity. Weight loss, beauty regimens, and even exercise are just a small part of the equation when it comes to practicing physical self love. Overall, it’s about honoring and respecting your body as the sacred vessel it is. When you love yourself physically, you prioritize self-care and nourishment, from the inside out. Whether it's through nourishing meals, regular exercise, adequate rest, or pampering self-care rituals, loving yourself physically leads to increased vitality, energy, and overall well-being.

How to Love Yourself Physically

  • Eat healthy and balanced meals, prioritizing protein

  • Prioritize regular exercise that brings you joy and strengthens your body

  • Get plenty of sleep to promote internal detoxification, at least 8 hours.

  • Move more often than you sit still.

  • Hydrate properly with not just water but also minerals and electrolytes

  • Track your cycle and sync your activities to it to optimize your energy

  • Dress in outfits and accessories that promote your self confidence

Mentally

Loving yourself mentally involves nurturing a positive mindset and cultivating self-compassion and resilience. It means reframing negative thoughts and beliefs, practicing self-acceptance, and embracing imperfection. When you love yourself mentally, you prioritize mental health and well-being, recognizing that your thoughts shape your reality. By fostering a kind and nurturing inner dialogue, you create a foundation for inner peace and emotional resilience.

How to Love Yourself Mentally

  • Practice EFT Tapping

  • Use affirmations to rewrite negative thoughts and reinforce a positive mindset

  • Create your 100 List

  • Spend time doing hobbies that bring you joy and nourish your soul

  • Set healthy boundaries in your relationships

  • Try Mirror Work

  • Consider energy work and attending therapy for professional mental support

Spiritually

As a Christian woman, loving yourself spiritually means spending time connecting with and strengthening your relationship with God. It involves seeking spiritual growth, finding solace in prayer and meditation, and living in alignment with your values and beliefs. When you love yourself spiritually, you tap into a sense of purpose, peace, and fulfillment that nothing else can provide.

How to Love Yourself Spiritually

  • Spend time reading the scriptures

  • Make prayer a part of your morning routine

  • Make a daily gratitude list

  • Spend time in places that reignite your spiritual connection, like nature.

  • Remind yourself that your body is not who you are; it’s simply the physical home for us to be in for a while.

  • Add your favorite bible verses to places you look everyday, like your fridge or computer screen saver.
